The Law Firm Of Elaine D. Smith-Koop, LLC
Divorce, child custody and other family matters are difficult and unsettling. My goal as a lawyer is to help you resolve these issues and return to a feeling of peace and balance in your life. That requires thoughtful planning, creative problem-solving and at times aggressive advocacy in family court.
Since 2002, the law firm of Elaine D. Smith-Koop, LLC, has provided compassionate, personable and experienced representation in divorce and family law. My Salem law practice serves clients in Marion County and throughout the Willamette Valley.
Compassionate, Responsive And Aggressive
Behind every legal problem is a story of how it came to this. I take the time to listen to your concerns and understand the history of the situation. I will answer your questions, give you advice and reassure you. Then we will discuss your options and determine a course of action.
I have a reputation for being aggressive, but I do not believe in unnecessary litigation. I take proactive steps to settle cases before they get to court, to keep the outcome in your hands. However, when it is necessary to go to trial, I am an experienced litigator who will forcefully assert your rights and position you for the best result.
Before I opened my own practice, I worked at another firm in Newberg for many years. While I now focus only on family law, I have a background in business and employment law, criminal defense, personal injury and other collateral issues that arise in divorce and custody cases.
Active And Involved
I graduated from Willamette University College of Law in 1990 and have practiced law in Oregon ever since. I have been involved in various legal and community activities through my years as an attorney. I am a member of the Marion County Bar Association, Multnomah County Bar Association and the Oregon State Bar Association. I have been admitted to practice law in the state of Oregon since 1990 and in U.S. Federal District Court since 1991.
Family Law Assistance
My firm understands the tensions and sensitivities of family law disputes. I work carefully and efficiently to reach an amicable solution to your divorce, child custody dispute or family law appeal. It is our goal to achieve your family’s best interests.
My law office is conveniently located on the corner of Marion and Cottage Street in historic downtown Salem in the Old Garfield School Building, which has now been converted into office space. It is a peaceful setting to discuss the stressful and pressing issues that are affecting your life, your children and your future.
